Software engineering and artificial intelligence, from Quebec

I’m Gabriel Mongeon. I live in Quebec and I’ve been working in software engineering for more than twenty years.

I currently hold a director role in artificial intelligence. My work is about defining AI strategies and guiding organizations through adoption, keeping the connection between what is technically feasible and what actually creates business value.

My Background

I started out as a programmer, then moved through technical lead, team lead, and department head roles before stepping into management. I’ve worked on embedded systems, engineering applications, corporate intranets, web and mobile applications, augmented reality, and for the past few years on AI solutions.

On the technical side, I stay mostly in the Microsoft ecosystem: C#, .NET, Blazor, and Azure. I also spend a lot of time on the AI models you can run locally.

I hold a graduate diploma in software engineering from Université de Sherbrooke and a bachelor’s degree in automated manufacturing engineering from École de technologie supérieure.

The Blog

This blog has been around since 2010. It holds more than 130 articles, all published in both French and English.

I mostly publish series. I take a project I actually built, document it from start to finish, and show the working code along with the problems I ran into. The list is on the Series page.

I started blogging back in the days of SharePoint 2010, Windows Phone 7, and the .NET Micro Framework. I was a Microsoft MVP for Visual C# five years in a row, from 2008 to 2012. The old articles are still online, including the ones about tools that no longer exist. They’re part of the archive and I’d rather keep them.

The site is generated with Hugo and hosted on Azure Static Web Apps. I write my articles with AI assistance and review them before publishing. The articles concerned say so at the end.
